Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: _Necronium_ on June 07, 2014, 03:27:03 AM
I haven't been around much due to League of Legends and actual work (I know can you believe it) But a few months back I went to get into vent to say hi and there was like no one I remember. What happened to all the oldies.

After DragonMaster left people started hanging out in Skype. Our vent server was closed recently. I'm really missing everyone not being around and having a place to chat.

Ah yeah I was here for that, the problem with skype is there are people that dont like each other there. So the groups get split and what not.

Yep that happened too I think. Cold Assassin did say we could get a mumble server if interested.

Honestly if the community is dead (As much as I dont want to say it is) then whats the point ;_;. Though I wouldnt mind actually talking to people for once. What ever happened with Dragon anyways?

Dragon moved back to New York and hasn't had internet since. I keep hoping that eventually we can breath new life into the community.

Static took over for Dragon essentially, however most of us moved out me and Popo are in the SnS/Supernovaservers clan and play gmod TTT mostly now, UA is still and was dieing/died slowly after the last 2 years, course we lost big chunk of the community when Static messed up the map at times and lag and server moving and server issues, then it sort of just fizzled.

It seems the clan was hinging on the mariokart server and since it changed ip due to change of host, there has been a lot less people on the server and people started moving away from the clan. I was also working on making a new map but getting frustrated with hammer editor and seeming that no one is playing on the server, ive decided to move away from it and move in a different direction. Ive been working with unity editor to make a game for android, maybe make some money from it. Ive gotten a small game going but soo much more needs done and i dont have the time right now since im working 50+ hours a week. Also, the minecraft server was fairly active until Mojang updated it and bukkit plugins couldnt keep up with the updates and people stopped playing there too. So both servers are pretty much empty and im still paying for both. I was thinking about shutting them down but I may leave them for a bit longer. We could maybe restart or something.

awesome. I thinking about cooking a whole turkey in my NuWave oven (infrared, conduction, convection) from frozen. says itll take about 3 hours or so. I bought the oven to try then take back and get a cheaper version online, this one was 160 bucks! Ive already made chicken wings which came out pretty good and close to fried taste when you add some oil to it, nice and crispy, also made 2 cornish hens a couple nights ago, came out awesome as well in only 40 minutes.

its really not bad, actually works. Mostly wanted it to cook wings without having to mess with fryers and the oil. i was gonna get one from walmart, have to order it, its the big boss for like 70 bucks. Im gonna do that and see how they compare and take back the nuwave if its just as good.

nice, i think mine were tyson also. takes about 35 minutes for what you can fit on the rack half frozen, maybe 10-15 pieces and have to flip half way through.

Maybe this has something to do with the lack of people on the MK TF2 server?
Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: Trinity on July 07, 2014, 05:44:45 PM
What we need is to get the TF2 server back up and running and an updated Minecraft server. Mega General was usually on the server trying to get it populated but his pc crapped out so it was a couple of months before he was able to get it up and running again. He's back so maybe you can get with him on Steam and come up with something. I know he willing to help.

There was indeed a map download problem that got fixed last night, which was preventing people who did not previously have the maps for logging in, giving the missing map error. However since it got fixed, today saw a maximum of 14 people on the TF2 server so far, which is a large spike from the max players of the recent past starting with the IP change. Hopefully we just need the spark to relight up the community, and the rest may happen on its own.

Post by: static2601 on July 07, 2014, 06:45:10 PM
but were those 14 people regulars who already had the map or people playing for the first time? I havent been watching the server so Im not sure if a few or any people have been playing on there. Regardless, the maps were fixed, the original host art of war central, where the maps were previously being hosted, shut down (like 3 months ago) and everything needed moved to my new web server. I did this last night, also fixed mapcycle not showing the correct mapcycle list. We also need to find out if maps change immediately on map change vote or if it allows voting, because when i tryed it with another player on, and active, it changed very quickly and the other player, when i asked, said they were not asked to vote for the change. This is bad since anyone could change the map without anyone voting for it, at anytime, without being admin(its valves voting system not sourcemod, which controls admin).
Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: Silent Muffin on July 08, 2014, 04:54:07 AM
it was about half new player, and half people whom I did recognize at the peak today so I'd say it was around 50/50. Also I do agree that the whole map timer does indeed need to be checked up on since anybody being able to initiate a vote for a map change and get through with it is not exactly the best thing.
Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: static2601 on July 08, 2014, 06:31:06 AM
I did some testing last night with one other person on and I called a vote and they it didnt allow them to vote 1 out of 2 times, the second time they could vote. I was able to vote both times when the other player called it. I doubt the Valve voting System knows who's an admin since nothing is specified, it might know that im the server owner by a server tokens needed, but I need this to be tested better. There also is no timer on maps that im aware of and only relies on players calling and voting on another map, I think id rather keep it like this. Ive also added 3 new maps to the maps list, mario_kart(the original), mario_kart a11f and mario_kart day b29. Ill add more tommorow, id like to keep it mario kart related if you want to see maps added.

Post by: Silent Muffin on July 09, 2014, 01:32:18 AM
Now that you mention it, I don't think that the current voting is a bad idea since rather than auto-switching to another map people may not want, the time wouldn't finish on the map unless a vote was called for to change it in the first place. Also the idea of the different Mario Kart maps is great, and since there are so many variations it would keep it fresh.

Also, (I really have no idea how much this means, if anything), but the TF2 server's popularity has increased from the 48th percentile up to the 51st percentile over this past week or so according to Gametracker, also there was not much time today in which the server was empty, always having at least a couple people playing if nothing else, but was a solid 8-12 players for a period of time in the evening.

Hey guys

So for the past couple months I've been hovering around the website keeping tabs on the clan just in case it were to come back from the brink. I never was much for the tf2 side of things but it seems that there are a few people still clinging to the clan and I would like to see it come back just as much as the rest of you guys. Being summer I have plenty of spare time to kill before moving for collage. If there is anything I could do to help I'm all for it, even if its sitting on an empty server to encourage people to join. Since i wasnt much for tf2, after the map change ages ago I was never able to connect, hopefully now I can come and play on it again. Out of any server, UA's was by far the greatest and if anything I want to see at least that again.

Well, there was indeed a problem with the maps before, as mentioned prior, but all of that has been fixed recently. All we have to do now is focus on gaining our player-base back and get our name out there again. Whether it be by advertising places (of course where it's allowed) or by maybe doing some announcements/events in the steam group, we need our players back somehow.
Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: Chipawok on July 11, 2014, 12:22:14 PM
Announcments and events sound like the best bet to get started, after the server is now fixed. Perhaps set up a sniper challange or melee torny, there are tons of things we could come up with. Even give out prizes or steam gifts if anyone has the spare cash. Maybe once things start getting more lively we could branch off to different games like minecraft or gmod(ttt, prophunt, hide&seek) as well.
Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: Silent Muffin on July 11, 2014, 02:26:22 PM
Yeah, I may be able to sell some of my items eventually on the steam market to fund some raffles or giveaways, or maybe just give the items away instead, depending on what the prize could be; but of course, all that is speculatory and subject to change depending on how/when the population of the community increases as such. But yeah we should get static or mega or any of the other admins to do some announcements to the steam group since we still have a good 200 at least active members on it.

But keep in mind that we have to compete for our players once more from other servers/games, so we're fighting an uphill battle to restore the past.

One of my old ideas for the clan was to have a Community Manager, sorta like an admin thats soul goal is to keep the community running. There are server moderators or forum admins, but no one has ever really focused on the community side. The admins have tried to work things out with everyone but I think now if we want to get working again we need someone who works with the members, setting up said events or doing some advertisement when its okay. While the admins and mods keep the technical side working smoothly there should be an hierarchy of leaders in other parts of the clan, especially with communal work.

Post by: Silent Muffin on July 11, 2014, 05:06:28 PM
I could see that working, a job(s)to keep the people coming into the community, organizing things to keep it interesting, and being a general manager for the community pretty much. Maybe one day we'll get the opportunity to explore that option further.

Hi all. as Trin said i been offline somewhat, do to a computer motherboard giving out. had a good run of 4 years. i did talk to Chip last night abit, and Assassin tf2 is now on nfoservers, so yes we had 4 ips, ip 2 and 3 would start slowing down a lot after 15 people. ip 4 seems to run great, if only would have keep the 1st ip. something to note, i know now that we cant get onto the website throw an android tablet, i dont know if this is all Tablets or not, but with windows 8 moving into be more tablet like , we might want to keep taps on it. well see ya after work .

im useing an asus memo pad hd 7 , gps is great, but using it for skype and steam sucks lol , i was wrong, it was 6 year i got out of the motherboard.

I was maybe thinking of doing key drop events, got to have 10 people , and maybe do this 2 times a month .

It is hard but you can get it server filled just with one person, but the golden rule is usually about eight .once you have eight, 8 becomes 10. Than they start flowing in to like 15 ,17 . One thing awards for us it is currently summer right. Now so that means a lot of new faces.

I know some servers if you rent from them they will also give you a mumble or team speak, when I was renting a starbound one I had a team speak, but those guys ended up being jerks, including charge me twice in one month, I also decided to hold off on the UA starbound , because the game still has a lot of issues it needs to fix.  Besides the fact that they still need to finish their game, but if anyone's interest in the future I'll keep in mind, but for now I think we need to focus on TF2 re-population. i know some people could not download vent, because of parental locks.

Post by: Silent Muffin on July 12, 2014, 09:55:52 PM
We really just need to get back on top of things, I mean, given I was not here until I flowed in as a random one day in late 2011, I do not know how it took off in the first place or how quickly things built up, but one thing that is for sure is until we have at least a reliable small player base of regulars, nobody is going to join a server that is 0/32 unless that person just wants to explore the map or idle.
Title: Well, What happened.
Post by: static2601 on July 13, 2014, 10:28:52 AM
When there are players, it tends to attract other players and snowballs from there. I agree that no one will join an empty server unless its to check it out. We used to have an almost constant flow of active players, at least a few people on at any time.this helped a lot to boost players in the server. There needs to be a reason to join the server even if its empty, maybe some side games or something to keep the players attention til others join. The maps have a lot of destructible objects and things to explore, but if one could call a boss to fight i think it would help. Im strongly against using bots to bring players into the server, btw.

I've also noticed that some players will leave when an admin comes on, maybe I should remove the broadcasting of admins in the ads field. Im going to update all that soon, the server name and plugins. btw, we should have a name for the server, not just unknown assassins mariokart. I could never come up with a good name.

I think having an updated Minecraft server would be good too. 1.8 will be released soon. Lots of new blocks and I love the Mesa biome.

the Minecraft server is updated to the latest but isnt running the old world, due to bukkit not updating to a working mod yet. I have saved the world and started a new one. Ive been using it to mess around in, anyone is welcome to play in it. It is also set to be creative mode.
