Title: Mic Spamming issue discussion.
Post by: DragonMasterNYC on June 22, 2012, 01:56:44 PM
This thread is not to rage on how you or someone else has been mic spamming or muted. I don't want to see walls of text about anything I want to see a civilized discussion on the matter.

Now I know people can mute you client side, but at times it's not enough since you won't be able to talk over them since most of the time you wont even know that they are spamming.

I also understand that people can lag because of the mic spam as well, some people have it worse then others. Now if an admin sees that it mean that it could be a problem for others. Assassin and I wouldn't notice this since we has a ton of bandwidth, but other with ADSL, DSL, or cable will notice it a lot since they won't have the bandwidth to support the game and the audio streams. Personally I would rather have some type of Shoutcast stream for the server that people can control on their client to avoid this problem all together.

Another thing I think we should look into is what's spammed on the mic. I know not everyone will be happy with what is spammed by one person, but maybe we can get to some middle ground on what should be spammed.

This is not a discussion on who can and can't mic spam since it is a whole nother matter.

(If anyone has something relevant to the discussion that was said in one of the other threads by all means quote it here.)

From my post in the Thread: Re-Opened : "I personally don't see why micspam is such a big issue in the first place, unless it's annoying. Which case, I mute the person.. Or in the case of people talking over one another, I just turn off voice chat all together and turn it back on later."

When it comes to bandwidth, my ping only really starts to go up when 3 or 4 people talk or spam over one another, not really when only 1 person spams.

My definition of "Annoying" micspam is something that is very badly spammed (Like through a mic), or something that gets overplayed. About 90% of the stuff micspammed is Anime related, which I don't really have an opinion of, since I'm not really into that, but I don't have any problem with it either.

But I don't think it would be fair to mute somebody if most/all of the players are actually enjoying it.

Again, going back to client-muting. (From Re-Opened) "When it's annoying, That case just mute the person yourself if it's annoying, or if other people like it but you don't. I'm sure people do that when necessary."

Like muffin said you can turn off annoying Mic spam which I do. The only mic spam I have a problem with is when certain people spam inappropriate things, like an endless loop of orgasm. While it seems stupid in a way it Can hurts the clans reputation. Now that maybe just me. But these could potentially get people in troubled. But for then most part Mic spamming is a way to let lose while having some fun. And that's A great thing.

I could agree with muffin and bighead, they both make good points, but for muffin alot of people seem new to the game or never looked at their menu screen to even see the client mute, i think we just need to teach them how to client mute.

I think it should be in one of the ads that pop up on the server, only reason I say this is because I hated having to repeat myself a dozen times a day.

Agreed, I was surprised, but its not really a surprise I did not know how to mute a player, until my first week of learning the mechanics of TF2. As muting was different than CS:S, although I had known of the ability of mute, sense it is a valve game after-all with mic capabilities. Some people just will not realize, unless told or they discover it. I think the fact that the "EAR" in the TF2 menu is so almost hidden, is the main reason some never realize its even there. Same with the console as well.

Apparently, if you play this:

Your fine and won't get muted, but if you play this:

Your are muted immediately with no exceptions. What am I missing here?

And apparently Ninny had a problem with my spray, I don't see why she cares about it. I mean, it's not like it's pornographic or anything

This thread has nothing to do with sprays, and since you decided to bring it up. If I remember you sprayed an old picture of her, which in a way is disrespectful since it's not a picture of you.

QuoteRule 26: Any thread topic can be turned into something totally unrelated

Besides, it can't be a picture of her, it's a picture of a guy with a cat on his shoulder.

I like the idea of it running across the banner, as I have to explain how to mute players almost every other day.
I guess as long as it sounds good and isn't porn I'm fine with the spamming, though.
